Is This the Recession?

In this week’s stock market review, we are going to review the strength of the U.S. economy, the risk of a recession, and what we think it all means for stocks and your money over the short and long term. Short term, we will review the state of the current stock market recovery by reviewing whether stocks are overbought at these levels and, if so, whether we believe that’s indicative of a temporary pause or a long-term, more chronic condition that requires defensive positioning. Lastly, we will lift the hood to take a peek at what’s happening in the credit markets related to risk and inflation expectations and whether that jives with the current narrative in the press.

Key Takeaways

  1. Over the next week, markets need to digest gains ahead of the Fed
  2. Institutional investors remain defensively positioned
  3. Remain focused on quality growth franchises that should benefit from lower inflation
